If you have any idea of buying this C/D, think again. I can say without reservation that this is probably one of the worst pieces of junk I have ever heard. It is clear that this group of no talent wantabes decided to capitalize on the current favor that opera bands are seeing in the music world, ie the only reason I can see for opera company in the album title. A really bad, bad, effort and something anyone who appreciates good music should avoid. It is an insult to the ears and I can now see why they won’t allow buyers to listen to tract samples before purchasing….

Anybody who likes opera and good voices should not be misled by the title. I’m glad the composers are not around anymore to hear their beautiful music butchered by a no talent rock band.

If you want more modern interpretations stick with Amici or El Divo. Hate, hate, hate this album.

As an opera singer I find it very discouraging that people out there are listening and praising this album. The singers here may be classically trained but so are millions of voice students in universities and conservatories around the world. Being classically trained does not necessarily imply being able to sing opera. None of these singers show a level of preparation that would allow them to start an opera career. However, smart as they are, they jump on the train of crossover opera and tap a market full of inexperienced listeners, who have never developed a taste for actual classical music.

But if their voices were all there is to it! No, their versions of operatic classics are naïve, distasteful and poorly executed. Their language skills are comparable to those of a first year student in an American school. And the sound brings to mind bad European techno from the eighties.

This is yet another example of the power of the music industry, which feeds people hungry for immediate gratification who have never set foot in an opera house.

After listening to this I do not know if I should feel pride or pity when I set foot on a stage to perform a role or sing a concert. I will never make the kind of money singing as these people make but I, as an artist, am fulfilled. And that is priceless.

I feel very sorry for anyone who listens to this and then goes to see an opera. I have no idea how they can appreciate a trained voice after listening to these rock singers mangle arias.

I found this recording in my public library under classical. They should have filed it in the garbage can.

I can see that those of you who like rock and roll will only listen to classical music if it is made into something you like, i.e., with drums and a rock beat. But opera is great, wonderful, and doesn’t need to be lowered to this level.

Go listen to some real opera. Go buy a ticket to a local opera company. You can wear jeans and a T-shirt. You don’t have to feel that opera is only for the super rich and the upper classes. It isn’t: it is great music. Read about the opera you’d like to see. There are modern operas too, and operas written in English. Learn what a trained voice is supposed to sound like. Get an education, especially since the public school system rarely teaches music now in the system. Educate yourself—there is more to music than rock and roll.

Basically, grow up. Rock and roll is for children and teenagers to dance to. Classical music is music to listen to and understand. Give it a chance and you may learn to like it. But leave this trash where it belongs–in the garbage can.

What is one of the saddest things about this recording? Decca, the company that issued it, has many great performances that were on LP and have never been reissued, such as those by the New York Pro Musica and Andres Segovia. Instead, we get this. Go figure out why classical CD sales are down. Rather obvious.

Overall, it’s a nice CD, one of the highlights being the Flower Duet. However, the girl who sings on this has an awful American accent when singing in French. She just can’t quite get the French R and it pains me so.
